Tsunade assigns the academy students to teams headed by a genin. Naruto refuses since he needs to train not babysit. Tsunade points out it’s good practice for being Hokage, protect your subordinates and complete the mission. Naruto buys into this but then finds himself in charge of Konohamura, Udon and Moegi.

Iruka and Shikamaru are in charge of assisting the instructors. The mission will last two days and one night. The goal is to reach the great boulder Warudaku on Mount Takurami. They are not to take any route other than the ones plotted on the map for safety reasons. There will be traps and attacks by ninja to interfere with the mission. After 8-10 km, they’ll see the base where they will take a secret scroll and head back to the village. There is only one scroll so it’s also a competition.

Choji explains to his team the importance of securing food. Naruto gives a food securing lesson to his team but it’s buying packaged food from a store. Neji tells his team that this area confuses the compass so they can use a wristwatch to estimate the direction from the sun. Meanwhile Naruto’s team is completely lost. Konohamaru takes the map from Naruto but he can’t read it. Moegi tries but ends up in the same place. Udon passess out from looking at the spinning compass.

Shots: Ino’s team running away from ninja. Shino’s team crossing a bridge of bugs. Tenten’s team fighting ninja. Hinata using her byakugan to scout. Lee being called sensei.

Iruka and his men attack Naruto’s team. Naruto uses his sexy no jutsu but there's no effect on Iruka this time and he hits Naruto on the head with his staff. But Naruto's team gets into the formation for the puri-puri no jutsu (booby booby technique) and the three tranform into statuesque women. The ninjas nosebleed and fall back but then Shikamaru hits Naruto over the head with a log.

Later at night Shikamaru reports to Iruka that a storm is brewing. Hinata’s team is nice and dry and warm but Naruto’s team is freezing and wet. Moegi is afraid of he thunder and lightning. Iruka cancels the mission but Naruto forces his team to take a shortcut not on the map. Naruto climbs the mountain easily with his chakra but his team hasn’t learned how to do that so they climb the regular way. Udon almost gets blown away but Konohamaru and Moegi hold onto him. Naruto cuts away the backpack which was billowing out and catching the wind, then he throws a rope to catch his students.

All the team leaders have been informed about the cancellation except Naruto. Shikamaru found Udon’s backpack at the Yoteegai route. Naruto’s team holes up in a small cave with no tent or food. They all start fighting and blaming each other when their stomachs growl. Naruto takes out food from his backpack but most of it requires water except an Angel cake. Naruto cuts it into three pieces, none for himself, and reminisces about the time he went without food during Kakash's bell test and the lesson in team work. The kids each break off a small piece of their cake for Naruto.

Iruka and Shikamaru climb the mountain. They reach the cave but the team has left. Naruto’s team continues to climb but then boulders start to roll down from the top. Naruto performs kage bunshin and his clones hold onto a huge boulder so his team can escape but the boulder crushes him and he’s pinned down. His team resolves to rescue him with teamwork . They run up the mountain and remove the rocks but he is still pinned down by a large one which they remove together. Iruka and Shikamaru arrive, another boulder crumbles and falls. Naruto's clones help his team escape and then Naruto uses rasengan to blast the huge boulder away.

During their report to Tsunade, Konohamaru tells her how Naruto forced them to take a dangerouse route. His teammates support him. Naruto runs away from Tsunade's punishment.

Review: Amusing, was interesting to see the different leadership skills. Would have been better if more time were spent on the various teams. Could have lasted another episode.
