Ep 104: Run Idate! The Stormy, Trouble Filled Nagi Island!!

Summary:

Jirocho notes a storm is coming. Aoi has injured Idate. Apparently the two have a history and Aoi says how Idate is always running away and he's a traitor who doesn't believe in people. He betrayed his brother and abandoned his village.

The team sees the rain genins under water. The rain genins use water clones to attack. Naruto's shadow clones form a ring and each starts a rasengan! A whirlpool appears under water and all the water clones are destroyed. Sasuke swims to the surface but Sakura is too weak so Naruto grabs her. On shore Naruto is about to give Sakura CPR, but she wakes and punches him out.

It's raining hard now. Aoi tells Idate that Fukusuki is about to arrive at the shrine. He beats up Idate some more before the team arrives. Naruto and Sasuke attack but Aoi avoids them and waves his umbrella at them with suck force that the ground cracks (maybe a wind-chakra jutsu). He then throws a volley of needles and each of the genin is struck. Aoi says he used the Hidden Village of Rain's special poisonous needles and they will die in a few minutes. He hears a roar and says Fukusuki has arrived at the shrine, then he leaves.

Fukusuki decides to take a break instead of finishing the race.

Sakura takes out a bottle of pills that Tsuande gave her before they left. They all take some medicine then find shelter.

Idate flashback: He's running to Ibiki to show him his forehead protector. He has just become a genin and rants about becoming a chuunin and jounin lightning fast. Ibiki tells him that there are more important things than promotions and power. Idate wakes then explains that Aoi was his teacher while in Konoha, but he betrayed Konoha and became a jounin for Hidden Rain. Flashback: Idate just failed the first chuunin exam. Aoi tells him there are other ways to become a chuunin. Idate steals the scroll of sealing and the legendary sword believed to have been used by the Second Hokage - the sword of Raijin (Thunder God). Aoi says now he can become a chuunin with the Hidden Village of Rain. If he stays in Konoha, in the best case scenario, he would be imprisoned forever. Idate has not been back to Konoha since then. Naruto thinks how that almost happened to him with Mizuki. He gives Idate a never-give-up pep talk. Idate lets Naruto carry him on his back and they're off.

Review:

Interesting use of the rasengan. Nice that this filler arc brings back old characters and parallels.

Notes:

New opening and ending.

The rasengan whirlpool has chakra mixed into it.

Thoughts:

Security is a serious problem in Konoha!

The scroll of sealing is much smaller than the one Naruto stole. Unless they added lots of forbidden jutsus since then.

The legendary sword believed to have been used by the Second Hokage - the Third was trained by the Second and he's alive at this time so wouldn't he know for sure whether that sword was the Second's? 

Best case scenario is life imprisonment for stealing the scroll and sword. Mizuki must be in prison somewhere.
