The Great Clash! The Phantom Ruins in the Depths of the Earth

Opens with a battle between huge armor suits against Sand villagers. Kankurou's puppets are in the battle. There’s a huge explosion then Gaara appears. Armor suits disappear into the water, but the Sand shinobi do not follow. Gaara orders flares to be shot and they see a large metal ship which then shoots out cannon balls capable of penetrating Gaara’s protective wall of sand.

A ferret scurries through the forest, tracked by Naruto, Sakura and Shikamaru. The ferret follows a trail of food and gets caught in a simple box trap. It willing goes to Sakura but when Naruto remarks how stupid it is to get caught by a lame trap, it attacks Naruto and runs off. Naruto chases it and gets caught in a rope trap with the ferret biting his cheek.

Naruto complains about the small amount they’re being paid. He runs across a bridge and it collapses under him. Client's village is across the field but Shika doesn't sense any people. Shika orders a reconnaissance pattern as they head to check it out. Shika finds the entire village destroyed. The armor suits attack Naruto and Sakura. They defeat them but then someone in a white armor suit appears. He takes out all of Naruto's clones and avoids being hit by Naruto’s surprise attack from underground. Naruto's shuriken are deflected by a shield that appears from the armor on his arm. Naruto hears a scream from Sakura who has been captured by one of the large armor suits. Suddenly the armor suit attacks the guy in white armor. Shika now has him in his shadow imitation technique. Naruto produces mass shadow clones, but the white armor guy takes them out and extends his sword which is able to attack with range missiles. Naruto attacks with rasengan from above but he counters with raging thunder. The attacks clash and cause an explosion where they are both thrown into a gorge. Then the large metal ship appears from afar.

Naruto wakes to find himself lying on a mat. There are a number of people sitting outside. On a mat next to his is a blonde boy. An old man, leader of the caravan, puts medicine on Naruto and says he picked them up by the river. The other boy wakes and winces in pain. Naruto yells at him as he recognizes him as the enemy. Both boys recover very quickly. The blonde boy has a symbol on his left chest. The ferret belongs to the old man.

Flashback: The blonde boy hides in a wrecked village as a hooded man walks by. Dreamlike scene where the boy is falling and a kindly old man reaches out to save him.

Naruto travels with the caravan, which has been traveling since long ago when their country was destroyed by a great catastrophe. People scattered and some even crossed the ocean. The ferret is apparently much older than the old man and is living proof that they once had a country. The ferret is attracted to the blonde boy.

Naruto talks to the boy who asks Naruto about his strange power. The boy doesn't know what chakra is and thinks about how it wasn't a “Gelel” reaction. Naruto asks again why he attacked him before and he says he came to make a utopia and asks Naruto to join him. Naruto goes off on a tirade and the ostrich upon which he’s riding takes off.

The boy dresses in his armor and leaves the caravan. A young boy falls out of a tree when trying to get a ball, but the blonde boy catches him in time. He says he has paid his debt here then leaves.

In the metal ship, Shika crawls through the vents and finds glass bulbs holding unconscious children. A woman drains the water from a bulb and complains how she has to care for them. Another woman remarks that once they get the stone of Gelel they'll be done with these children. Shika watches as something comes out of the machine.

The old man laments that the ferret is gone and Naruto is forced to find it again. Naruto finds the ferret with the blonde kid and sees the large metal ship. The blonde kid, Temujin, wants to introduce Naruto to Haido-sama, his master. Naruto follows him into the ship where the large bodies of armor patrol the halls. They take an elevator and arrive in the throne room. A kindly middle age man greets them. Temijin draws his sword on Naruto to get him to demonstrate his power, but Haido tells Temujin to stop. Haido tells Naruto about his plan for a utopia where there will be no war. He asks to borrow Naruto’s power but Naruto says he plans to be Hokage. The ferret snarls at Haido. Someone comes in and tells them the team that attacked the Wind Country has been wiped out. Temujin runs off and Naruto follows him to a site where children lie dead among broken glass bulbs. Kankurou's puppet drops down on Temujin. Kankurou explains to Naruto that the enemy destroyed several villages. Temujin breaks free from Karasu.

The two girls enter. There's a sudden explosion and Gaara appears. He and Kankurou fight the two girls while Naruto argues with Temujin, who explains in order to make their utopia, sacrifices must be made.

Kankurou fights the girl with long hair (Kamina) who envelops him in darkness and show him visions of tortured criminals from the Country of Death. She has him caught in a genjutsu. Meanwhile Gaara fights the girl with short hair (Ranke) who attacks him with Tornado Lightning. But Gaara is protected by his auto defense and he counters with Rain of Sand - spears of sand shoot out. The girls doges and runs toward him while creating a shield of electricity.

Both Kankurou and Gaara appear to be at a disadvantage. Gaara catches his opponent in desert coffin while Kankurou used his puppet replacement technique but Kamina turns into bats and disappears. Ranke girl transforms into a gorilla like beast. Gaara notes she's taijutsu user who transforms her body in order to increase her power. She counters Gaara's sand attacks with a plasma ball. Gaara falls down a shaft, but it's just a Gaara shell of sand. Real Gaara stands above her and uses Ryuu Sabakuryuu (flowing desert dragon) and the entire is flooded with sand. But Ranke encapsulated herself in a bubble of electricity. She runs toward Gaara who counters with Suna Raishin (Thunder God of Sand) and sand spikes fall from the sky, electricity surrounds her, and with Sabaku Taisou, more sand wraps around her.

Kankurou continues his fight but Kamina turns into a humanoid bat and flies away. Naruto clashes with Temujin but the bat woman swoops down flies off with him. Naruto accidentally jumps onto Kankuro and they both fall to the ground.

Another long hair girl (Fugai) threatens the old man asking for the stone of Gelel. Suddenly she drops him to the ground. Shika has her in his shadow bind. The girl transforms into a wolf like creature, breaks free from the shadow bind and runs off. Shika asks the old man about the stone of Gelel. He says nothing at first until Shika walks away to look for Naruto.

Temujin flashback: Young Temujin stands with his friend. They are the only two who survived the destruction of his village. Haido shows them a Gelel stone which he says can stop all the fighting. Some years later, an older Temujin and his friend talk about how Temujin is able to adapt to the Gelel stone which apparently is in his left chest. His friend can only use his power in one of the glass bubbles.

Present, Temujin gets yelled at by Fugai since he was with the caravan which had a Gelel stone. Temujin goes to investigate. Shika’s shadow sneaks up and binds him. While Temujin is tied up, the old man, Kahiko, tells him the stone has terrible powers that must not be retrieved. A light projects from the symbol on Temujin's chest which the old man explains is from the Gelel crystal, the source of life energy. The man asks him where he got the stone, from Haido, then he asks about the Book of Gelel. Only the main branch of their clan is able to completely control the stone. The remnants of the main branch that crossed the ocean were left in charge of the last stone of Gelel and the Book of Gelel. Temujin is from that clan. Kahiko tells about the history of the Stone of Gelel. Their ancestors’ civilization thrived because of the stone but then there was war to control its power and its power was used for war. Only a few youths survived and they sealed the stone of Gelel and swore never to use it. They couldn’t destroy it, only the main branch members could do that so all they could do was protect it.

Temujin is detrmined to harness the Gelel power for Haido. He breaks from his bonds, and places a knife against the old man’s throat, then knocks him out, throws a flash bomb and kidnaps the him and a child. He grabs a camel-like creature with horns and runs off. The Leaf team follows the ferret to track Temujin. Kahiko is forced to take Temujin to where the stone is. They head down a cliff after Temujin uses his sword to signal Haido. The ship moves toward their position.

Meanwhile Shika and Sakura and the ferret catch up to Temujin. The ship’s massive drill bores through the ancient ruins. Temujin tells Haido that the Vein of Gelel is below them. But before Haido can leave Shika binds him and asks him what they plan to do. Haido tells him about his utopia and their necessary sacrifices.

Naruto gives them a lecture about cherishing your comrades and how he use to be alone and now he has friends he wants to protect. Meanwhile the old man has wandered off and activates something that takes him and Temujin down underground. Haido sprouts wings to follow them. Shika fights the bat girl while Sakura takes on the wolf girl and Naruto follows Haido.

Kahiko and Temujin reach the Sealing Room which has painted panels showing the history of the empire. The old man attacks Temujin with a dagger.

Shika has problems with the flying enemy but then he sees Kankurou from across the cavern. Sakura thinks she's taken out the wolf girl with explosive kunai but she’s unhurt. She tracks by the smell of her blood and shoots out sound rays from her mouth. Sakura tricks her into using the sound rays in an area with large crystals dropping from the ceiling. The crystals vibrate and hurt the enemy's ears, then they and crash down on her.

Shika throws kunai with strings and explosive tags attached. The strings crisscross the entire cavern. Kamina carelessly flies around thinking his shadow still can’t get her but then Kuroari captures her in Kuro Higiki Nihatsu (Two Secret Black Ceremonies). Shika explains to Kankurou that most of the tags are just plain paper.

Temujin throws off the Kahiko but he’s been cut. Kahiko is about to use Temujin’s blood to summon the destruction of the Gelel vein, but Haido shoots the dagger out from his hands using the Gelel stone in his hand. The old man realizes Haido got the stone and the book from Temujin's village. Something comes out from the ground and Haido thinks it's the key to opening the door to the vein. The ferret tries to attack Haido and but get blasted away. A piece of Gelel stone falls out from the ferret. Haido blasts the old man but Temujin steps in to save him. Haido tries to blast him again but Naruto grabs Kahiko away. Haido orders Temujin to kill Naruto and the old man but Temujin asks if they are necessary sacrifices. He now realizes Haido was the one who destroyed the village and killed his parents.

Haido no longer needs Temujin so he now attacks him. He transforms and plunges his hand into Temujin’s chest, grabs the Gelel stone and crushes it in his hand. The old man begs Naruto to stop him. Haido fights against the Naruto clones as Temujin lies on the floor realizing his folly. Haido takes out all the clones and punches Naruto back but Naruto attacks again with rasengan. Haido gets knocked up to the ceiling but is barely affected. The hole in the ceiling reveals the vein of Gelel which gives Haido even more power. Naruto asks Temujin to lend him his power. Haido shoots rays from his hands against Naruto and Haido but the armor suits which contain the souls of Temujin’s friends protect them.

Temujin picks up the piece of stone from the ferret and follows Naruto who attacks with two rasengan. Temujin gets knocked back by Haido but Naruto manages to reach him and forces rasengan into his left chest. The cavern starts to collapse. The seal is broken and things are going out of control. Meanwhile Sakura and Shika and Kankurou rescue a number of the children.

The old man thinks an explosion could take out half the continent. He tells them there is a special summoning bound by the blood of the main branch to summon a black hole negative space that will suck in everything, but the person activating the technique will not come back alive. Temujin knocks out Naruto and decides to do it alone. He reaches the summon circle and places his hand against it. Everything turns black.

Sasuke and Naruto walk toward each other in a field. They pass each other without a word. Naruto wakes.

Temujin falls into the abyss, but Naruto’s chain of clones hold onto him. As the black hole disappears, trees suddenly sprout up. The old man explains to Shika and Sakura that a tiny fraction of the vein's true power leaked out to create a source of life. The ferret has also recovered. Temujin wakes up and sees the sky above the ruins. Naruto still holds his hand. A wall in front of him breaks and shows a painted panel of two figures holding hands.

As credits roll, Temujin and his friends sail off. The ferret chooses to stay with Temujin instead of the caravan.

Review: The first movie was better. This one doesn’t make a lot of sense and the sci-fi elements don’t mesh well with the world of Naruto. Storyline is very typical and characters are uninteresting and one dimensional.
