Ep 206: Genjutsu or Reality. Those Who Control the Five Senses

Naruto carries Yakumo through the forests while thinking he can’t believe the Third ordered something like that. As he approaches the village, he sees that it has been destroyed! Hinata surveys the area with her byakugan but can’t see anybody. They continue into the village. Kiba and Akamaru do not sense anything strange. Sakura says they should go to the hospital first. Kurenai and Yakumo lie down. Yakumo needs medicine so Sakura asks Naruto to find some. Kurenai tells her ex-team to survey the village and come back in 30 minutes no matter what.

Naruto worries Kurenai will finish off Yakumo. Sakura sees someone run by. Naruto dodges shuriken and then goes in pursuit of the old man. He tries to use kage bunshin but it doesn’t work. Unkai tackles him and they fall through the floor. He tells Naruto to listen or everyone will die.

Kiba, Shino and Hinata smell something putrid. Shino says they are trapped in someone’s genjutsu. Unkai tells Naruto that Konoha’s destruction is Yakumo’s illusion.

Unkai says Yakumo’s genjutsu can call forth fire or lightning and make the brain believe events actually happened and can easily kill someone. The Hokage mansion crumbles and a giant snake comes out. Shino says it’s an image that the fear in their brains created. Any physical influence is unthinkable. But the snake attacks and they fall to the ground.

Sakura opens door to Yakumo’s room to find open space, literally. She screams.

Naruto thinks Yakumo can kill with genjutsu is maybe the reason why the Third wanted to kill her.

Sakura’s scream wakes Kurenai who finds Yakumo gone. She hears Yakumo’s voice coming from the door.

Unkai tells Naruto that the Kurama Clan have a special body type that appears once in several generations - that is Yakumo. Her subconscious controls it since she is unable to. Naruto feels hot and walks over to the door. He kicks it open and sees magma below. Unkai warns him although it’s an illusion if he fell in he would feel the effects. Naruto asks if that’s why the Third and Kurenai want to kill her, but Unkai says they wanted to kill the monster that resides within Yakumo. He says her unbelievable power gave birth to a terrible monster. Left alone, the monster would continue to grow and develop until it took over Yakumo’s consciousness, making them one. The Third and Kurenai decided the only way to save Yakumo was to seal away her powers.

Naruto drops his coin purse and it disappears in flames. Naruto asks what can they do. Unkai says if you close off all your five senses genjutsu cannot hurt you. He tells Naruto to kill Yakumo then Unkai strangles Naruto unconscious and jumps into the magma. Naruto wakes on the grass ground and sees Unkai smoldering nearby. He says Naruto fell into Yakmo’s illusion when taking her out of the mountain villa. His teammates lie on the floor nearby. Naruto wakes them and Sakura treats Unkai’s burns. Unkai notices that they were let out of the illusion, which means Yakumo has who she wants - Kurenai.

Pictures float in space. Yakumo continues to paint. Kurenai sees she is painting one of her. Yakumo says she plans to have revenge on the village but plans to take care of her first. She paints out Kurenai’s feet. She asks Kurenai to tell her the truth that the Third ordered her parents’ deaths and the clan and her. Kurenai denies it and Yakumo paints away her legs. She asks her again. Kurenai says she can kill her if that will stop her pain and suffering.

Naruto and the team return to find Kurenai. Hinata finds them with her byakugan.

Yakumo creates a wall of flames. In his haste, Kiba runs into the flames.

Review: Another filler arc that’s way too long.

Notes:
Shino says heightened senses are problematic. The brain is where all data is processed regardless of sense of sight or smell. These are processed through a system of complex neurons which leave room for mistakes. But insects move on sharp sense alone. Unlike humans they only process the minimum amount necessary through their brains. His bugs are calm.
