Naruto leaps from tree to tree then stops and complains about Jiraiya not helping with his training. He notices a young girl nearby painting storm clouds over Konoha. It's a clear day but suddenly the sky becomes cloudy and as she paints a white stripe, lightning strikes the Hokage mansion.

Tsunade runs out and orders the fire to be put out. A couple of shinobi surround a pool of water. They perform seals for Suiton, Suishi no jutsu, water drowning technique, but they miss and. Tsunade gets splashed instead, so they try again.

Meanwhile Kurenai thinks that what she feared has come to pass.

Naruto follows the girl. Suddenly two medics appear and they sedate her. Naruto arrives on scene but an ANBU orders him to return to village. The ANBU disappears with the medics and the girl.

Sakura takes documents onto the roof to dry while Kurenai speaks to Tsuande. Sakura overhears Kurenai withdraw from team 8.

Naruot hears Kiba, Hinata and Shino and runs over. They tell him Kurenai has withdrawn from their team. Kiba wants to protest to the Hokage, but Shino and Hinata say its Kurenai's decision. Naruto insists on interfering. He sees Kurenai on top of a building. He runs up and asks her to stay as team 8’s sensei. She says she's not qualified and she's not going back. Naruto goes to the Hokage building and sees Sakura drying the documents. He tells her what happened but Sakura thinks talking to Tsunade won't help. But Naruto says he knows where Tsunade hides her sake and will threaten to tell Shizune. Sakura says Kurenai has a reason for leaving. Naruto presses her to tell him the reason. She tells Naruto about Yakumo at a mountain cottage near the village guarded by 2 medics and ANBU. Naruto realizes it was the girl he saw earlier.

Meanwhile as Lee and Gai spar, Kurenai watches from above and flashes back to her meeting with Sandaime when he tells her that there are occasionally untrained genjutsu users who come to the village just as she did. He asks her to take care of Kurama Yakumo. Long ago the Kurama family was among the greatest advanced bloodline in Konoha just like the Uchiha family. They were the best at controlling genjutsu but their clan has been shrinking in size these past few years. Even with their genjutsu abilities, they were incapable of being jounin. Yakumo is the main branch’s only daughter. She has some problems with her physical assets so she is not enrolled in the Academy. Sandaime says she has incredible genjutsu abilities so much that her clan feels she will bring about disaster. Her parents passed away...cut to Kurenai training Yakumo who is already out of breath. Kurenai tells her she can be something other than a shinobi. Yakumo mentions Rock Lee being a ninja with only taijutsu. But Kurenai says she's different than his sensei Gai, she can't raise her.

Lee's done with training and runs off for a bath and rest. Kurenai talks to Gai. Kurenai doesn't think her team can flourish under her. Gai says all he did for Lee was to believe in him.

Naruto finds the cottage were the girl is held. Kurenai appears before the medics and ANBU and asks to talk to Yakumo. She enters a room of dark disturbing paintings and sees one of herself being stabbed through by a ray of light.

The ANBU and medics hear screams, and Kurenai breaks through a window to escape the genjutsu. It’s actually Naruto! He sees the girl on the balcony. Before he can talk to her, the medics sedate him.

Review: Another filler starts off rather interesting.
