Ep 98: Quit Being a Ninja! Tsunade’s Notice.

Back in the village of Konoha, Shino is collecting bugs, Kiba is leaping around with his dog. Akamaru is spraying the trees! Kiba calls that aerial dynamic marking. Shino is annoyed he can’t collect bugs in peace. Hinata comes by and says she’s envious that they have things they’re good at and enjoy. Shino asks what does she want to talk about. Meanwhile Iruka gives his class a problem to solve. Ex-hokage bodyguard, who got a couple of kunais to the chest during the battle with the Sound, comes up to Iruka and whispers something in his ear. Iruka cuts the class short and assigns the worksheet as homework. Moegi, Konohamaru’s female friend, says she’s glad not to go to hand-to-hand combat class. Udon notes that a lot of classes either end before noon or aren’t even held at all. Konohamaru stare up at the Hokage’s house and sees two chuunins (guys from the chuunin exam) carrying some boxes. He runs over and demands to know what they’re doing. They’re storing the stuff elsewhere since it won’t be used and that the Fifth Hokage has been appointed. Konohamaru runs upstairs and into Tsunade’s chest. Shizune comes by and says the elders are waiting. She and Tsunade leave while Naruto runs into the room and crashes into Konohamaru. Naruto asks if he’s seen a big-breasted scary looking old/young lady. He needs her to go to the hospital and tells Konohamaru that she’s the Fifth Hokage.

Neji is training his Byakugan abilities. He sees through trees and counts seven birds within 50 meters. Tenten comes by and tells him "the" Tsunade came back, but he’s not interested. He’s disturbed that there were actually 8 birds.

Tsunade is advised to summon the feudal lords immediately to announce that she’s become the Fifth Hokage. The old female advisor calls Genma and Aoba (shinobi with sunglasses who told Sasuke about Itachi) to send out the message. Tsunade returns from her meeting hoping to relax but Naruto is waiting for her. Shikamaru and his dad drop by. Tsunade asks his father "are you taking care of the deer. The antlers in that region make excellent medicine." Shikamaru asks about the young chick who acts so important. Naruto explains she’s the new Hokage and is really 50 years old. Naruto, Shizune and Tsunade leave. Shikamaru is disturbed that a woman is Hokage because he’s not good with women, they're outspoken and they like to talk a lot and he can’t tell if they’re getting along or not (thinks of Ino/Sakura). They think that men will act the way they want them to, they’re just plain troublesome. His dad tells him that without women men can’t be born and men are no good without women. Any formidable woman will show kindness to the man she falls in love with. Shikamaru thinks his father can’t even stand up to his mother.

Tsunade comes into Sasuke’s hospital room where Sakura is visiting. She notices two flowers and realizes they weren’t brought on the same day and that Sakura has been visiting everyday. She touches Sasuke’s forehead with her hand emanating green chakra. He wakes up and sits up. Sakura hugs him and starts crying. Naruto realizes how much she cares for Sasuke and leaves the room, signaling Tsunade to follow. Tsunade berates Kakashi for losing to just two traitors and adds "I thought that you were a genius." Poor Kakashi says "I’m sorry" in a low whisper. Meanwhile Gai is anxiously waiting. Tsunade frowns as soon as she sees Lee in the hallway. She asks if Naruto has something else to do and he remembers he’s supposed to meet Iruka and runs off.

Iruka is late meeting Naruto at the ramen stand because of the events going on with the Fifth Hokage. As Naruto eats his ramen, Iruka talks about how he’s grown but he’s still has to accomplish more. Iruka discusses Konoha’s current problems, how they lost many skilled ninja in addition to the Third so Konoha’s powers have declined by more than half, but still they have to accomplish the missions or other countries will think they’re weak. Even Kakashi who has not fully recovered will most likely get a mission.

Meanwhile Tsunade is examining Lee. Her palm rests against his back. She advises him to quit being a ninja. Gai goes into denial mode and tells Tsunade to stop joking. Tsunade explains that mutiple bone fragments are embedded deep within an important nerve system and even if she performed an operation on him…Gai freaks out and accuses her of being a fake Tsunade. The operation can only be performed by Tsunade and takes a lot of time and carries a big risk. There’s only a 50% chance that of succeeding and if it fails, he’ll die. Gai flashes back to Lee training even with a crutch and swallowing a hundred bitter springtime of life medicinal balls. Lee says nothing but gets dressed, gets up and walks way. Gai says if he knew this would happen he wouldn’t have asked her to look at him. Tsunade says it would be worse if he found out later. Last shot is of Lee hobbling away on his crutches.
