Ch 91: Disciple Application!? (ep 53, 54)
Naruto doesn't poke Ebisu.
Jiraiya doesn't say Naruto is sexy without his clothes.
Jiraiya on the Nine-tails seal method: 2 four-elephant seals, a double seal...maybe the Hakke seal method, it's set up so some of the nine-tails chakra slips out between the elephant seals and combines with the kid's chakra.
Five part unseal is not composed of chakra elements.
Naruto says his chakra is normally yellow rather than blue in the anime (the demon fox chakra is red in both).
After Naruto successfully walks on water, Jiraiya says to meet him tomorrow and takes Ebisu. He doesn't run off and have Naruto chase him.
Ends with Ebisu pleading with Jiraiya.
Ch 92: Leaf and Sound and Sand and...!! (ep 54)
Dosu's body looks kind of ripped up and crushed.
After seeing Gaara kill Dosu, Kabuto says: Wow, so that's his true identity.
Kabuto laughs and appears flippant about failing to abduct Sasuke.
Naruto does't have to transform to the sexy no jutsu to get Jiraiya's attention for training.
Naruto asks Jairaiya how does he know about his other chakra and Jiraiya answers he's a sennin (sage).
Naruto does water walking to use up his normal chakra rather than kage bunshin and nearly drowns.
Jiraiya bites his right thumb, smears blood onto his left hand and does summons with left hand. Naruto just uses his right hand.
Ends with ravens around Hayate's body rather than Anbu finding his body.
Ch 93: Each's Passion (ep 55)
15 days since start of training, Naruto summons is still a tadpole.
Kakashi is climbing a cliff from later on in the episode, and has a flashback to the meeting of the shinobi and Hokage to discuss Hayate's body and Orochimaru's plans. In the anime the meeting was shown first.
Ino and Sakura at the hospital each with a flower. Flashback to them finding out Sasuke had left during the night. Then they see Lee doing pushups, then they flashback to the scene at flower shop, but here Sakura knows not to get a sick person flowers with roots, in anime Ino tells her.
Nothing is shown of the other teams' training or Shikamau, Choji and Asuma at the restaurant.
Ends with Naruto summoning a tadpole with hind legs.
Ch 94: Key...!! (ep 56)
3 weeks pass, Naruto summons tadpole with 4 legs and tail.
Jiraiya does not take Naruto for last bath or meal but just pushes him off a cliff.
Ch 95: The Meeting...!! (ep 56-57)
A day earlier in the Hidden Village of Sand, Baki gives the Kazekage the Sound's plans. Kazekage shows Baki a document which presumably limits the number of Sand allowed into Konoha. In the anime, Jiraiya appears to observe Baki's movements.
On his way back to Konoha Baki has a flashback to telling Gaara, Temari and Kankurou about the plans and why Kazekage wants to go to war. ("Minister" used instead of feudal lord.) In the anime Temari and Kankurou have the flashback in ep 57.
Ends with Naruto summoning Gamabunta.
Ch 96: The Sudden Intruder!! (ep57-58) nice pic of Naruto in official ninja dress
Naruto swears at Gamabunta and tells him he's the master, but Gamabunta threatens to rip his head off. Naruto apologizes and Gamabunta says he'll make him his underling. Jiraiya laughs that their positions got switched around. Gamabunta wraps his tongue around Naruto and takes one huge jump. Naruto passes out, then Gamabunta sees the contract scroll on the ground and realizes it was true that Naruto summoned him. The scene with Gamabunta is much shorter where in the anime Naruto stays on his head all day and Gamabunta realizes that Naruto did call him. Jiraiya throws him the contract but he thinks he doesn't need to see it.
No scene with Baki yelling at Temari and Kankurou that Gaara is gone. No scene with Sakura visiting Lee with a flower.
Shikamaru is reading a book in the manga rather than playing shogi in Naruto's hospital room. Naruto says Shikamaru is a pretty nice guy (for giving him the fruit basket) but Shikamaru responds "You idiot! It's just because it would be a waste if it spoiled."
Ends with Shikamaru holding Gaara in his shadow bind.
Ch 97: Reason to Exist.!! (ep 58)
Incarnation of sand called Shukaku sealed within a kettle. It's the living spirit of an old Hidden Sand priest. (still doesn't makes sense to me.)
Picture of Gaara with mutilated teddy bears, not shown in anime.
Ends with Gaara leaving the room after Gai appears.
Ch 98: A Proud Failure!! (ep 59) nice color shot of Kakashi and his team
Opens with the important guests arriving in palanquins rather than Naruto looking up at the night sky. No scene at the ramen restaurant or with Choji's, Ino's, and Shikamaru's parents, or Tenten and Kankurou preparing their weapons.
During Hinata's pep talk, Naruto says he may appear strong but he's frustrated from failing and she says "In my eyes, you're a proud failure." (not translated as such in the anime)
Entire scene with Konohamaru and the bulls is not in manga.
Ends with the examiner telling the participants to face the crowd.
Ch 99: Main Event Commences!! (ep 60)
No significant differences.
Ends with Neji and Naruto about to fight.
